Luminescence

You knew you were going to die

That’s why you came inside.

We have more in common than you know.

You’re addicted to the light.

I hide in shadows.

I lay on the floor and wonder what you’re thinking.

The loudness of trying to understand a self, or another.

The silence of feelings that tear me open.

Your wings leave dust on the walls.

Proof of life.

You existed for a brief time.

I was just here longer.

Endings are what make us whole.

When we come full circle, is it a moment of peace?

I know you were only here because you were trying to get back home.

I read moths are confused by artificial light, they think it’s the moon leading them.

I wonder if I was the light you were seeing.

Something in myself, I can’t see.

I find you laying down in the morning.

I turn on the light one last time.

Hoping part of you can see.

Still see me.

Different Worlds...

You seem far away, like the light doesn't reach you.
Like we're from different worlds.
Everything feels like a dream, but when I get to the end, it just restarts. A book I can't ever finish, a maze with no way out.
So I sit by the lake and wonder a million different ways to reach you.
Though I can't even think of one.

That Night...

I feel your soul rest around me,
a notion of safety that is so real I can feel its warmth against my skin.
My hollow chest fills with air, your life next to mine.
A dream of calm.
My heart flutters, that night so real I can see the moon's light kissing your shoulder, now.
A look that lingered for a life time.

I know, I knew you.
We only met, but we were forever.

Day Light...

There's a fold of darkness that hides in the groove.
When we wake its slight, but as the light gets less,
we wonder, down a path that is not our own.
Into the darkness.
Trying to find something, a break in the day where we can rest.
Where our soul stops seeking and it can be still.
Where we can lay with ourselves and wonder,
about all the beauty that makes us up and all the reasons we are good enough.

As one...

You flow together like a river.
Consuming.
All assuming.
Very little time from breath.

The warmth and depth.
The light.
Hope, even when alone.
Nothing will hurt again.

The Known...

A feeling of calm.
Your breath rests on my chest, over my heart.
In the night, we are one.
Dark settles around us, making the sound of silence.
To my mind it is Peace.
And from a distance I can still see the details,
of your life from the surface,
and outside myself, we are a painting,
of all that is beautiful about the World.

Dreams of Waiting...

There on the edge of light,
we meet.
The World turned around,
your face still familiar.
We make a break, in my imagined world.
And never turn around.

Forever...

Leave the door open,
i'll close my eyes.
I don't want to see what's on the other side.
The delicacy of a hidden thought,
the gentleness of a whisper.
I can feel myself falling, without ever knowing.
But I do know,
what forever feels like,
and this
is
it.

Firefly...

We drive at night, through the red.
The purple sky can't catch us.
I run my fingers through your hair.
The moonlight tries to touch us.
As it reaches lower all the street lights now bow out.

You put down the window, so I can touch the night.
It echoes silently in the distance, just out of sight.
I take some in my hand and put it in my pocket.
Because what's the use of having light, without a bit of night.

Sidelines...

...and in all illusion is chaos,
we expect nothing more.
Though our eyes are bright with wonder
and our minds wild with cause
our steps are unsteady, shaking as they meet the Earth.
The crescent shaped marks on our palms,
hold all the tension we can't explain with words.
Our lips never move, as on the side line they keep score.
Don't turn, the past will catch you
and never
ever
let
you
go.

Midnight birth...

It feels like a heart beat,
but I can't see anything, only right now.
Two ships passing in the distance,
the evening fog their only witness.
A silence roars between them, whispering
Why are we lost?

A Dream of You...

I can feel my soul like it's on the outside,
and I'm obsessed with all the loose strings.
As the rain makes them sing, the world is bursting with life.
My steps are steady and my heart is light,
fluttering as it wakes on the edge of morning,
to that embrace that's worth the Earth.

Distance...

The air is still, it doesn't move.
The days are long, but short with you.
To spend more time before I wake,
in my dreams you make me wait.

Tell Me Something...

It blisters through the shadows from bottom to top.
Their skins crack when they bend in the warmth.
As the breeze cuts through their bodies, pools of dark gather on the road like puddles,
representing their stillness, the parts of them that can't move.
How precious everything is when viewed as the separate moments, that when stitched together
make our lives.

Pretenders...

If the sun exploded right now it would take 8 minutes for us to realise.
That's how long the light would take to travel to us, here on Earth.
We would still feel the suns warmth and see its rays for 8 minutes.
How blissful it would be if we could live our whole life in those moments.

Dear Heart...

I forgot what you said the other day,
about holding on to what once was.
My mind took me away from there,
back to the river that birthed me.
Its lapping waters drowning all thoughts of him.

A piece of glass I am on the shore.
My sharp edges submissively disappearing, here.
As the tiny waves change my shape year by year.
Each cut to the water, a memory I give the world to hold.

To heavy to be on my shoulders, no more.
I leave you open to bleed.
As all that I am flows back into the river I once was from.
I find the soul of the Earth to which I belong.

Ancient Dream...

We watched the path of dreamers,
the long road to get back home.

What is fear when you're close to the end?
An extra beat of your heart?
Breathe catching in your lungs, afraid to be exhaled?
My mind keeps you next to me in both places.

The shadow of your memory rests beside me.
I can feel you in my thoughts.

I move to a patch of setting sun,
and as twilight falls in front of the night,
behind my eyes the shadows of your eyelashes fall across your face.

I lay with your ghost in the field until morning.
When you wake I leave, as though the sadness in your eyes fills me with the guilt of a thousand nights spent with another.

I don't think you were scared,
you just wanted it to be over.

I've always wondered what it would be like to just give up.
Where would I rest?
Who would take me back home?

Tilted...

Upset, lost on a late night.
Two shots out from a lost life.

Waking up in a dream,
just keep at 1000 can't let it subside.
Though this mirror's got me in a fight with myself,
I'm in a war with myself
Still attached to the past and it feels like
way to strong,
It's been way too long.
Feel like I'm going to fight someone.
Someone..

I've just got to learn to breathe for myself.
Stop attacking myself.
let the past be.

I know I let it get the best of me.

In Another Life Maybe...

A fragile heart that beats too slow,
a whisper of love, you had to let go.
For a time you took me away,
from who I was, then asked me to stay.

In my eyes you can always see,
who I am, who I'll always be.
You can trust that love and know for sure
that I couldn't ever close that door.
I had to wait for you to change your mind,
for your love to fade back in time.
To before we met,
before we knew,
a love so deep,
a moment so true.

When I piece my heart together,
in some time.
If I can learn again to walk the line.
Maybe I can tell you how I really feel.

I'll stitch together the memories we shared,
and let you see
everything we are and what you really mean to me.

Infatuations...

They drown in thoughts deeper than the surface,
as they paddle in circles never closer to the shore.
The beating of so many hearts fade, an unfulfilled tone of inadequacy echoes.
Filling tomorrow with similar monotonous action.
In a mirror of continued madness.

Toward a sky they cannot hold,
in place of a life that fits the mould.

I stare from the other side,
climbing a tree to get a better line.
As I reach on, my heartbeat quickens.
Lips a deep red, as though dipped in sacrifice.

To take another step forward,
is a risk to fall.
Adrenalised warmth rushing under my skin.
Another breath, thin of air as I look within.

Toward a light no one else can see,
in search of a meaning greater than me.

I take a look at the sky above,
awaiting the stars return.
To a world that doesn't notice.
Why would they shine tonight?
